throw the rubbish并不是“扔垃圾”的精确表达，throw是抛、投的意思，throw the rubbish的精确含义是“抛垃圾”，这……抛不准就太尴尬了。
外国人说“扔垃圾”，一样平常会委婉地说成take out the trash或put it in the trash。
garbage, rubbish, trash, waste这四个词都可以表示“垃圾”，那它们有什么差异呢？

garbage与rubbish的差异
“垃圾”在美国、加拿大等美语国家是garbage，在英国是rubbish。
这两个词还可以用来比喻没有代价的东西或事情、瞎话或者是废话。
例如：
She was talking rubbish in the meeting.
她在会上的发言都是废话。
The store is full of useless rubbish.
这个店里卖的全是没有用的褴褛。
Dig a pit and bury the garbage.
挖一个坑把垃圾埋掉。
rubbish的词性比garbage要多一些，它除了可以当名词之外，还可以作为动词，意思是“强烈地批评，把什么东西或想法说成一文不值”。
例如：
I don't understand why everyone keeps rubbishing my idea?
我不明白为什么每个人都以为我的想法一文不值？
rubbish作为形容词，意思便是“不会，没有能力做某件事情”。
例句：
I'm rubbish at playing computer games.

trash
trash也是美式英语垃圾的意思，还可以用来指“不值得尊重的人”，是非正式用语。
例如：

当trash被作为动词利用的时候，是非正式用语，表示“扔弃、丢弃”或者“严重破坏、拆毁”或者“剧烈批评”。

waste
waste作为名词的时候，它是一个正式用语，最常用的意思是“没有利用代价的东西，包括废品、垃圾、废物、废物”或者指“韶光、金钱、精力等的摧残浪费蹂躏”。
例如：
The amount of waste we produce in the house every year is astonishing.
我们一家一年所产生的垃圾切实其实令人不可思议。
Don’t watch this film. It’s a complete waste of time.
